The organic Sassotondo 2019 Maremma Toscana Ciliegiolo San Lorenzo blew me away. This wine will be released next spring to allow it to finish time in bottle. Made with the best fruit selected from 60-year-old vines planted in a gorgeous vineyard with volcanic soils facing the postcard-perfect town of Pitigliano, you get so much character, depth and authenticity. Ciliegiolo ages in botte grande for 24 months, and only 2,000 bottles were produced. Dark cherry and sweet blackberry are framed by white pepper, spice and an etched note of flint, graphite and volcanic ash.
